Based at a confidential location in the Scenic Rim, the Women and Family Advocate – Housing provides practical support and interventions to women and children as they transition from Refuge into longer term, safe and sustainable accommodation in the community.

Our Domestic and Family Violence Refuge is a welcoming haven for women and their children who have experienced the trauma of domestic/family violence. All refuge staff work towards assisting families to regain independence & safety following domestic and family violence.

Your role will include:

• practical support and interventions to increase client’s safety and wellbeing during and post refuge
• working through the lens of a multi-level practice framework in collaboration with the refuge team
• risk assessment to identify and respond to identified risks and needs
• support women to address barriers to housing and advocating on behalf of women with key stakeholders including housing providers and tribunals
• assist families to exit temporary accommodation, establish and independently sustain tenancies
• apply theoretical knowledge in domestic violence, parenting, attachment and trauma informed care

what we are looking for

We are looking for a flexible and adaptable individual who will work collaboratively as part of a team to achieve best practice outcomes for woman and families.

You will bring:

• passion, commitment and belief in young people
• diploma level qualification in Social or Behavioural Sciences with at least 3 years direct experience in family and youth services, preferably with knowledge and skills in working with women and children who have experienced domestic and family violence
• demonstrated understanding of case management with assessment frameworks related to Child Protection, Parenting and Family Work, Family Violence, Mental Health and Drug and Alcohol issues
• demonstrated ability to participate in and contribute to relevant networks for delivery of services to families experiencing violence
• strong knowledge of current evidence-based practice, programs, policies, legislation and trends relevant to domestic/family violence issues
• excellent communication, conflict resolution and report writing skills along with the ability to impart knowledge
• experience or knowledge of accommodation and housing pathways to support families resettling into community and knowledge of resources and homelessness services in Southeast Qld would be advantageous
