yourtown is looking for 8 young people who are enthusiastic about starting a career in Landscaping and/or Horticulture.  This program is a Skilling Queenslanders for Work project, which is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government.

Here is your opportunity to learn more about the industry through hands on practical experience combined with wrap around training provided by yourtown. You will be supported by a qualified Trainer and a Youth Worker to help you develop your skills and experience! 

Program Information

During the program you will gain:

  • 21 weeks paid industry experience;
  • Certificate I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management
  • Assistance transitioning into full time employment following your traineeship  

Projects you will be working on:

Trainees working on the Blue Care project will learn a variety of hard landscaping, conservation and Ecosystem management skills such as;

  • Demolishing of old raised garden beds.
  • Construction of new garden beds.
  • Rejuvenation of the existing garden beds and introduce bird friendly flora.
  • Construction of shade houses.
  • Construction of Concrete Paths.
  • Irrigation installation / replacement.
  • Restoration of outdoor furniture.


Who can apply?

  • Young People aged 15 to 24;
  • Must meet eligibility requirements for a Working with Children Blue Card;
  • Must be able to complete a National Police Check;
  • Must be fully vaccinated (Covid Vaccine);
  • Must have evidence of receiving a current Flu Vaccine;
  • Must NOT have completed a Certificate I in Conservation and Land Management / Cert I in Conservation and Ecosystem Management;
  • Not currently a full time student at TAFE, University or School;
  • Be local to the Ipswich area;
  • Permanent resident of Australia;
  • New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Qld;
  • Refugee and Humanitarian Visa Holder living in Qld; or
  • Temporary Visa Holder living in Qld with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
