Our goal in Social Enterprises is to equip disadvantaged young people with holistic training mentoring and relevant skills and experience to help support them to sustain employment in the open labour market! This experience is further supported with wrap around youth work and practical support provided from qualified Trade Supervisors.

The Program!

Partnering with the NSW Government, the Youth Employment Social Impact Program (YESIP) has been established to help address youth unemployment and support young people with complex barriers to develop work readiness skills and find and sustain employment.

The Role!

In this role of Trade Skills Trainer – Horticulture/Construction you will deliver face to face ‘classroom based training’ and ‘on the job’ training models to a group of young trainees (15-25 years) to work in our Horticulture Crew and partner with multiple employers! The trainer will deliver pre-employment training for young people looking to enter the horticulture and construction industry and will also focus on providing practical hands-on experience upon completion of training. You will also be outside on the tools working on commercial contracts with our young trainees training, mentoring, and undertaking projects such as building maintenance, lawns and ground maintenance and related horticultural tasks. 

In this role you will:

  • Deliver high quality technical and practical training to young people
  • Adjust/develop flexible teaching and learning strategies to assist students with barriers to learning
  • Strong knowledge of OHS and how to safely operate machinery
  • Capability to work with young people and overcome training barriers.
  • Work in partnership with the Youth worker to help find sustainable employment
  • Ability to liaise with all customers including Employers.
  • Enjoy being on the tools alongside our young people and provide support to the wider team to complete commercial contracts

We have a full time, fixed term position until October 2023 (Monday - Friday)! Based in St Marys NSW.

You will have access to a company vehicle, phone, laptop, trade tools, and workwear! 

In this role you will:

  • Hold a trade qualification in Horticulture or Construction
  • Manage and mentor young trainees and help overcome training barriers.
  • Background in ground maintenance and/or trades.
  • Be OHS Savvy.
  • Hold a White Card or willing to obtain one
  • Have the skills and experience to be on the tools alongside our young people.
  • Be extremely motivated and encouraging.
