As an established Employment Service provider in South East Queensland, we are now looking to expand our portfolio to deliver Transition to Work in Hervey Bay! The Transition to Work service provides intensive, pre-employment support to young people aged 15-24 to help improve their work-readiness and help them into work or further education!

For over 15 years, yourtown has been providing quality employment services throughout Australia in communities facing long-term unemployment. yourtown works persistently to address youth unemployment and its causes, by unpacking the challenges a young person might have and finding the right solution for that young person. 

The Role! 

As an Indigenous Employment Coach you will primarily support the engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander job seekers with the program and the Job Placement Coaches whilst maintaining a strong employment focus. Your key day to day responsibilities will include;

  • Supporting the job seekers who are in employment to ensure a sustainable pathway;
  • Connecting with traditional owner groups, elders, community organisations and community groups within the area to promote our Employment Services and to gain new referrals;
  • Educating the team and sharing appropriate resources to help culturally support the job seekers.
  • Build and maintain local labour market knowledge and understanding of employer needs through regular immersion visits

This is a permanent full time position located in Hervey Bay!

About you

You are passionate about working with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people, and truly believe in every young person’s capability to achieve a positive future in everything they do. You engage and build rapport easily with young people. You also understand the importance of community and actively build connections with local elders and community groups.

In addition you also possess;

  • Certificate IV level qualification in youth work or a relevant discipline and a minimum of 2 years experience OR demonstrated experience in youth work for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people with an employment/case management focus;
  • A solid understanding of the local labour market as well as the barriers faced by disadvantaged young people;
  • Proven ability to deliver workshops and group facilitation processes with groups of young people (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander specifically)
  • Proficient skills in using technology and systems; our compliance requirements are high and your administration needs to be on par with this.
