Based at Sunnybank Hills, and working with the Social Enterprises team, the Youth Worker works within a strengths-based case management and life skills development framework to assist young people enter sustainable employment.
Our goal in Enterprises is to tackle long-term youth unemployment by providing young people with paid work experience and on-the-job training as a stepping stone to open employment. The Youth Worker works alongside Trade Supervisors/Trainers to provide supervision and support for small groups of trainees engaged in labour intensive work designed to build entry level skills.
your role will include:
- support new trainees commencing on the program
- assess needs and barriers and develop individual case plans
- assessing and managing risk and providing crisis intervention
- advocating for the young person
- travelling to work sites when required to provide support and assistance to the trainees
- helping to develop tailored pathways to employment
- workshop facilitation for trainees on job readiness
what we are looking for
You are approachable and easily build rapport with young people. You understand that persistence is key, and you follow through on what you commit to. Your ability to build effective working relationships with employers and community organisations will see you secure rewarding and sustainable employment opportunities for our trainees.
You will bring:
- passion, commitment and belief in young people
- certificate IV qualification in youth work or a relevant field
- demonstrated experience in youth work in the context of case management of young people with complex needs
- a solid understanding of the local labour market as well as the barriers faced by long-term unemployed young people
- proficient technology and administrative skills
