your opportunity
We’re looking for an Expressive Therapist who’s passionate about making a real difference in the lives of children and young people (0–18 years) impacted by domestic and family violence. Based in Deception Bay, you’ll deliver therapeutic support to those experiencing developmental trauma, using expressive therapies to help them feel seen, heard, and safe.
You’ll predominately work with children aged 0–8 referred from yourtown and community programs, offering Filial and Family Therapy through creative and trauma-informed approaches. You will also provide support to yourtown’s Glugor Young Parent Program through workshops, and focused interventions with young parents and their children. This role blends counselling, expressive modalities, and relationship-based work within a strengths-focused framework.
What you’ll be doing:
• Provide trauma-informed assessments and interventions for children and young people using creative and expressive modalities tailored to individual needs.
• Develop and run both individual and group-based programs that support emotional healing and development, aligned with best practice and child-centred approaches.
• Use expressive therapies to build connection between parents and children and help families understand the therapeutic process and its benefits.
• Work closely with internal teams and external partners to ensure coordinated, holistic support for children and families.
• Monitor therapeutic outcomes, contribute to program evaluation, and prepare clear, timely reports for internal stakeholders.
• Establish strong, respectful connections with families, referrers, and community partners to support engagement and continuity of care.
what we are looking for
• You hold tertiary qualifications in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioural Science or a related field, with at least 3 years’ experience in expressive therapies. You’re also eligible for membership with a recognised professional body (e.g. ANZACATA).
• You bring strong knowledge of child-centred practice, trauma-informed care, and expressive therapy approaches. You understand the impact of domestic and family violence on children and can deliver culturally and developmentally appropriate therapeutic responses.
• You have experience developing, facilitating, and evaluating both individual and group-based therapeutic programs for children. You’re confident in using evidence-based approaches and contributing to program outcomes.
• You work well within multidisciplinary teams and have experience in co-case management. You build and maintain strong relationships with colleagues, families, and external stakeholders.
• You’re a clear communicator with strong organisational skills. You can prepare therapeutic reports, contribute to evaluations, and communicate effectively with children, parents, and professionals.
• You’re confident in establishing new programs and working within defined guidelines. You bring initiative, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous improvement.
