yourtown’s Mind 4 Kids Program provides psychosocial support and psychological therapies for children aged to 11 years with moderate mental health issues, to improve their health, resilience and wellbeing.
This is an exciting opportunity to work within a reputable service that has a range of programs in the child and family space and is well connected with the community. You will have the opportunity to collaborate and attend cross-service training with other co-located services including Glugor Young Parents Program, Starfish Family Mental Health Support Service, Communities for Children and Expressive Therapies.
The program is delivered within a stepped care approach and works in an integrated and collaborative manner with wraparound supports. It is provided on site and via outreach.
We are seeking an Allied Health Professional - Counsellor to support children, aged 0-11yrs and their families by providing a single-entry point into mental health care, wraparound supports and psychological therapies. You will work closely with the psychosocial support team to enhance positive child and family outcomes.
Your role will include:
• undertake needs assessment, case planning and referrals
• engage parents/carers and children in a range of evidence-based screening questionnaires and outcome measures
• deliver evidence-based counselling and psychotherapeutic interventions
• support children to improve their mental health, and emotional and social wellbeing
• work with families to improve parental understanding of child’s needs and how to support their child
what we are looking for
You will be comfortable and skilled in working with a wide age range of children and young people and will have demonstrated experience and commitment to evidence-based therapies in line with the person’s needs.
You will bring:
• passion, commitment and belief in young people
• relevant university level qualifications and eligibility for professional registration with ACA, PACFA or other relevant body
• minimum 3 years’ experience providing counselling and psychotherapy for children and their families
• demonstrated skills in assessment, case formulation and planning
• ability to provide tailored, age and culturally appropriate therapeutic responses to children and young people
This position will initially be appointed on a maximum term basis until 30 June 2025, with potential for ongoing work subject to funding. Full time and part time applications will be considered.
