yourtown is one of the pioneers of work-based social enterprises in Australia, having provided over 3,000 young people with paid work experience and training over the last 20 years.

Our program allows experienced tradespeople to work alongside youth workers to provide supervision and mentoring support for up to four participants engaged in labour intensive work, designed to build entry level skills.

your opportunity

Based at St Marys, and working with the Social Enterprises team, this role has responsibility for leading and coordinating the grounds maintenance team to ensure a safe, productive and high quality program that meets client, program and contract requirements.  This is a hands-on position that will see you out on the tools with a small crew 2-3 days per week.

Your role will include:

• manage the day-to-day activities of the Enterprise Trainers
• lead, manage and mentor the Enterprise Trainer team
• coordinate projects to meet quality standards, performance and budgets
• develop work plans and schedules and source suitable materials, tools and equipment
• business development and customer engagement activities
• undertake the Enterprise Trainer position as required including maintaining a small portfolio of properties with a crew and backfilling leave where required
• lead and foster a culture that demonstrates Safety Always

This is a full time permanent position. 

what we are looking for

You will have a recognised trade background (landscape/horticulture) and experience leading a team and scheduling works. You will operate within a Safety Always environment and have the ability to lead within a strong safety culture.

You will bring:
• passion, commitment and belief in young people
• relevant trade qualification or similar in horticulture or landscaping
• experience with scheduled grounds maintenance operations
• demonstrated experience or capacity in leading a team, and the ability to coach and guide team members to achieve organisational objectives
• an understanding of the local labour market as well as the barriers to employment faced by disadvantaged young people
• well-developed project management skills including costing, estimation and quality control
• well-developed written and verbal communication skills and the ability to prepare reports and budgets
