yourtown is a charity predominantly funded by the community. Employing over 700 staff across Australia, our services tackle some of the toughest issues facing children, young people and families - homelessness, family and domestic violence, mental health and wellbeing and youth unemployment. We are also the proud provider of Kids Helpline and Parentline telephone, email and web counselling services. At yourtown you will be part of the solution, we believe every young person has the right to a brighter future and we'll do whatever it takes to help make that happen.

yourtown is looking for 8 young people who are enthusiastic about starting a career in Construction.  This program is a Skilling Queenslanders for Work project which is proudly funded and supported by the Queensland Government. Participants will learn about the industry through hands on industry experience.  You will be supported by a qualified Trainer and a Youth Worker.

During the program participants will gain 21 weeks paid industry experience; a Certificate I in Construction; white cards and assistance transitioning into full time employment following the traineeship.  Trainees will work on the Jimboomba Village Hall project where you will learn a variety of construction skills such as project planning and the refurbishment/ restoration of the village hall.

Who can apply:

  • Young People aged between 15 and 24;
  • Being ineligible for Australian Government employment services or assistance;
  • Having accessed Australian Government employment services for more than six months and remain unemployed;
  • Must not have completed a Certificate 1 in Construction;
  • Not currently a full time student at TAFE, University or School;
  • Be local to the Jimboomba/ Logan area;
  • Permanent resident of Australia;
  • New Zealand citizen permanently residing in Qld;
  • Refugee and Humanitarian Visa Holder living in Qld; or
  • Temporary Visa Holder living in Qld with the necessary visa and work permits on the pathway to permanent residency.
